Dark Matter Found?

As we know, about 50% of the universe's matter is missing. That is, according to how the universe is expanding, there has to be more matter out there than we can possibly see. This is called dark matter, and figuring out where and what it is has been one of the great mysteries of science. Well, until possibly now, that is...

Wired is reporting that scientists using the Chandra X-ray Observatory have recently huge clouds of baryons in between galaxies. Extrapolating from the mass of these clouds to other clouds throughout the universe, it equals approximately 50% - the other half.

Big win for the astrophysicists if this pans out. Read about it in the February 3rd issue of Nature.
